What Created The Web?

I believe that the Communications Revolution created the web. Let me give you a little background on it. The 20th century was a great time for technology. Throughout the years technology advanced at such a fast pace that multiple mediums were created. This includes telephone, television, and the networked computer. Erik P. Bucy states that this was the Communications Revolution in his bookLiving in the Information Age. The telephone has been around since 1876 and there has been many updates to the contraption, but it is not until the 1900s that the idea of long distance calling came into play. The first transatlantic cable, going online in 1956, could only withstand eighty-nine conversations at one time. This led to the development of fiber-optic cables, going online only in 1988, which carried three million conversations. Meanwhile, more cables are being laid and satellites are placed which lead to mobile phones in the early 1980s. Finally, the cell phone raises productivity that many people will appreciate for years to come. With all these great thing being created, you could only really use one at a time. On the web, you can use just about every single medium listed, at the same time, if you wanted to. The web is how most people communicate in today’s, no matter if it’s on social media or through email. The Communications Revolution, in my opinion, definitely defined the web.
